The perspective: My vision

To make rural Dalarna something I find “sexy”.

To draw forward delightful things to make a specific place more appealing to your taste.

I find ruins of industries tragic, but yet hopeful. The place has been liberated, or barred, from it’s purpose. For me, productive industries does not imply working opportunities and wealth, but rather pollution, poor working conditions and low wages. Remember: this is only my own point of view.
Now, the abandoned places like Larsbo Kalk AB, litter the countryside of Sweden since the corporations choose a working force more desperate than the local population in order to make even more profit.

So what to do with all this steel and concrete that collects dust? Well, I say: Let’s pimp it!

For too long, the image of Dalarna has been decimated to folk music, strange clocks, even more strange painted horses, and clogs. Of course this is all good things that describes a landscape full of history and something to be proud of. But Dalarna, just as any other place, is much more than it’s history!

So, used the eerie, cold, dark and lonely former chalk facility Larsbo Kalk and turned it into a place for a rock´n roll life style! A monument to live for the moment, because the now is ever-present and all-powerful. Build on the failings of the past, on the ruins of industry.

In other words: I took a place, let that place become my symbol for the whole of Dalarna and turned it into something I found interesting.

Brain conflict.. worlds collapsing.

Well.. MAYDAY!!!!

I know vaugely what I want to create. I just don´t have words for it. Not in English nor Swedish.

Basically, I want to use the envoironment of Larsbo Kalk as a rural centre of culture. Festivals and exhibitions. So I´m going to rebuild a piece of the interior, and have an exhibition inside, with pics from the satellite mill. Or even better, art from my fellow classmates?

How can this relate to art education? Well, since I studying to become a Folkhögskolelärare, my students are going to demand exhibitional- and room/space-relating skills from me, as their teacher. So this is a training for me as an curator/teacher. And architect. Heh..

More is never less for me, I guess?

The first steps in my project has been taken. The project: RuIndustry is shaping itself. Here is one component for the finnished outcome; a movie with some eerie music I made, inspired by arcade videogames of old. Some of you might recognise the music, but it is of little, if any at all, importance I guess.

As the video suggests, I finally added the mill in Säter as a "Satellite" for my primary project. I think it represents the ultimate fate of all abandoned places, specially those who risks being re-claimed by nature.

Projektets namn.

This week has meant much contemplation. The thoughts have been focused on the underlying reasons for my choice of place. Maybe too much contemplation, since I seem to walk in circles. Anyhow; after dissecting my thoughts I come down to this: Industrial complexes appeal to me. As with all things: They appeal even more if they are paradoxal. And the sole meaning of an industry is being as productive as possible, so an abandoned industrial complex, a real paradox, triggers me.

Sadly, I still have no idea how to use this area. Or, more correctly; I have too many ideas.

But I have made this much clear: It is a impossibility to go back to this place. Within these weeks, neither me or J, have the money for petrol such a trip requires and still live decent lifes. Hence; I´ll make due with the echo of the experience when we entered this place.

Now; to the tricky part. What can I do with a couple of pictures and a meta-sensation? I guess anything. When I recall this place there are 3 "elements" that distinguish themselves in my memory: Darkness, metall and unstable footing. I think these three things are what I can use.

So, what now? I have a name for the project! I will simply call it RuIndustry. Clever huh?

I would like to use an unstable stair in this project. And seal of any light. Oh, and don´t forget the metal. Oh yeah, the metal.

At long last, here is the pictures from my trip to the darkest corner of Sweden:

Ruins. What is it that is so intrigue-inspiring with ruins?
I followed my line of thought back to post-apocalyptic, fictive futuresets. It has allways made me feel free in a way this so called ordered society never could. Never mind the hardships of these scenarios: Radiation, scarce of food etc. just mind the ruins. A failing society finally put out of our misery.

So, I found this nice, abandoned facility. The abandoness of the place triggered my imagination. The eeire emptyness made my fantasy run rampant.

Now then, what to do with this place?? What did I carry with me from it? What kind of fantstic parasite infested my imagination that day?

Scavening the rural ruins

Me and my girlfriend and partner in crime, J, took the car to the frontiers of civilization, namely Säter. Also J:s hometown, she showed me aeround and came up with some ideas for my project. We found this completely adorable, abandoned stone-mill outside of Säter, complete with ruins and everything! I shot several shots with both my cellphone-camera and my second-in- command camera Holga. Wonderfull!
I am certain I´ll discard the old shooting range in Falun for this one, since this place had more defined borders, which I pronounced with large stones the Rusty, decayed and rusty artifacts and other litter.
Unfortunately, I cannot in this moment, upload any pics. I will do this when I get back to Gothenburg. The Holga pics will have to wait for a while, since they need to be processed.

Stay and touch.
